Having split up back in 1992, successive to Shaun Ryder’s elicit substance abuse, it’s an amazement that he is even alive. The band members have been through copious amounts of turmoil ever since. Having seen Rowetta audition for a place on the X Factor, Bez winning Celebrity Big Brother and Ryder the runner up place as the King of the Jungle. But now the band has reformed as the third incarnation, this time as the complete original lineup, for the first time in 19 years.
Taking to the stage of Brixton’s infamous O2 Academy, introduced by the theme tune to the nation’s favourite soap opera – Coronation Street. Followed by a spurt of incomprehensible banter from Ryder, leading into an outstanding set, including hits Kinky Afro, 24 Hour Party People and of course – Step On, all accompanied by Bez’s unique dance moves, gaining the strongest crowd reaction of the night, followed by an energetic encore.
