New York has spawned some of the world’s most elusive Hip Hop acts, from pioneering figures such as Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, through to Public Enemy, De La Soul and Wu Tang Clan. And it’s clear that the seventeen year old, yes that’s right, rapper Joey Bada$$ has been making tidal waves with his material that has already surfaced. Linked with rap collective Pro-Era, the young rapper has released a highly lauded mixtape titled 1999, and is currently gearing up to release his debut album.
So in the lead up to his debut LP, a new track – Unorthodox – has been unveiled over on Bada$$’s Soundcloud page, having hooked up with DJ Premier to handle production duties. Witnessing the East-Coast artist rapping over a steady groove laden beat, and cohering to the Hip-Hop styles of artists that reigned before he was even born. Drawing comparisons to urban music titans such as Tupac, the Notorious B.I.G, Wu Tang Clan and Nas.
With each single release it’s becoming ever clearer to see that Joey Bada$$ debut album may just propel the Brooklyn rapper to become Hip Hop’s next big thing.
